One Step is an advocacy initiative aimed at raising awareness for young people about cancer.
it is a place for young people to learn about cancer prevention and treatment and it is a place where young people can share their lived experiences with cancer.
One Step aims to bridge the gap for young adults navigating a cancer diagnosis.
young people can also take active steps in their everyday lives to reduce their risk of developing cancer.
our prevention resources aim to make young people aware of how they can minimise their risk of cancer in the future.
Our prevention resources show young people how to help prevent the development of skin cancer, lung cancer and cervical cancer.
One Step aims to bring a voice to young people to take…
Sophie is a medical doctor who was diagnosed with Hodgkin’s Lymphoma as a young adult and was treated with radiation therapy. Even as a doctor, Sophie found there were limited resources targeted to young adults where most resources were made for those much younger or older. She found it was challenging to build connections between young people with similar experiences and wanted to create a space where young people could share their experiences with cancer with each other.
Founder — Dr Sophie manoy
Sophie is a participant in the global NCD Child Young Leaders Program and One Step is the outcome of funding provided for the Young Leaders Program Year 2 Advocacy Project. One Step thanks NCD Child for the support.
illustrator — aliona grytsenko
Aliona began exploring illustrating and watercolour when she was diagnosed with cancer in 2018. Art became her safe space and was something that she could control and something that she feels has allowed her to express her feelings and experiences. Because art has been Aliona’s source of empowerment, it has made her passionate about bringing joy and empowerment to others through sharing her art.
